Why use an App Password?
If you prefer not to use Google OAuth (sign-in with Google), you can connect Gmail to EmaReach using an App Password. This is a 16-character password generated by Google that lets EmaReach send and receive email on your behalf without using your main Gmail password. Your plan must allow Gmail; you can add accounts from Settings → Integrations → Gmail.
Before you start
- Your Gmail account must have 2-Step Verification turned on. Google only issues App Passwords for accounts with 2-Step Verification.
- You will need to generate the App Password from your Google Account settings (not from EmaReach).
Step 1: Turn on 2-Step Verification (if needed)
- Go to Google Account and sign in.
- In the left menu, click Security.
- Under "How you sign in to Google," find 2-Step Verification and click it.
- Follow the steps to turn on 2-Step Verification (phone or authenticator app).
Step 2: Create an App Password
- In your Google Account, go to Security → 2-Step Verification (you must be on 2-Step Verification first).
- Scroll to App passwords and click it.
- You may need to sign in again. In "Select app" choose Mail, and in "Select device" choose Other and type a name like "EmaReach".
- Click Generate. Google will show a 16-character password (with spaces; you can ignore the spaces). Copy this password—you will paste it into EmaReach. You won't see it again.
Step 3: Add Gmail in EmaReach with App Password
- In EmaReach, go to Settings (sidebar) and open the Integrations tab.
- Find the Gmail section. If you have the option to use "With App Password" or "Connect via App Password," click it.
- Click Connect via App Password (or Add Gmail account and choose App Password).
- In the dialog:
- Gmail Address: Enter the full Gmail address (e.g. you@gmail.com).
- App Password: Paste the 16-character App Password you copied from Google (with or without spaces—both work).
- Click Connect or Save. EmaReach will verify the credentials and add the account as an inbox.
- The new Gmail account will appear under Inbox Accounts (sidebar → Inbox Accounts) and in Settings → Integrations → Gmail.
After connecting
- You can use this Gmail account when creating or editing campaigns: choose Gmail as the sender type and select this inbox.
- You can connect multiple Gmail accounts (within your plan limit) by repeating the steps with different addresses and App Passwords.
- To disconnect later, go to Settings → Integrations → Gmail, find the account, and use the disconnect or remove option.
Summary checklist
Troubleshooting
- "Invalid credentials" — Make sure 2-Step Verification is on and you used the App Password (not your normal Gmail password). Generate a new App Password if needed.
- App passwords option missing — You must enable 2-Step Verification first; the "App passwords" option appears only after that.
- Account already connected — If the same Gmail appears twice or you get a conflict, disconnect the existing one in Settings → Integrations → Gmail and add again with the correct App Password.
